Coleen and Wayne Rooney spent a worrying Christmas Day at the hospital bedside of Coleen’s disabled 11 year old sister, Rosie who had become seriously ill. Rosie suffers from Rett Syndrome, an incurable genetic disorder which causes severe disabilities.

Last night, a hospital spokeswoman confirmed Rosie was in intensive care but said her condition had been ’stabilised’ and she had transferred to a regular ward.

Last night a friend of Wayne and Coleen told The Sun: ‘They changed their Christmas plans to make sure they were there for Rosie as often as possible. Coleen has been going every day and Wayne has been two or three times.

‘He insisted on going despite having intensive training sessions over the Christmas period. He’s a brilliant uncle to Rosie and both he and Coleen dote on her. They were extremely worried when she was in intensive care and are still deeply concerned about her condition. The whole family are praying she gets better soon’,
the friend said.

‘They are keeping their fingers crossed that Rosie will improve soon. It’s been tough on the whole family seeing her like this at Christmas.’

Her mother Colette has said: ‘Colleen idolises Rosie and Rosie idolises Colleen and though Rosie can’t communicate she communicates with her eyes and she lets us know what she wants by the noise that she makes and when Colleen walks into the room Rosie’s eyes light up.’

An Alder Hey Hospital spokeswoman said: ‘Rosie is a regular patient of ours and she’s not been very well for the last couple of weeks. She was first admitted on December 16 and was then readmitted on the December 21 suffering complications with her illness. She spent the night in intensive care where she was stabilised.

‘She is now back on the neuro-medical ward where she usually is and her condition is improving nicely. We want to get her home as soon as possible.’

The Rooneys’ spokesman told The Sun: ‘Rosie is receiving the best treatment possible from the wonderful team that have helped to look after her over the years.’

Our thoughts go out to Coleen’s family and Rosie.
